Renaissance Garden Daylilies
![]() | BI-GOLLY DOR 26" M ((sdlg x Godiva Jam) x sdlg) A 5 ½" sibling to Ganelan, it could be fairly argued whether the color is a reverse bicolor or reverse bitone. The petals are an orange kind of gold with a burgundy (not purple) eye. The eye color repeats itself in a bit of veining and in a penciled stripe in a mid rib which barges through the eye and is lighter than the petal, picking up a bit of pink as a result. The sepals are orange. The throat is green. Modestly ruffled and full formed, it has slightly pointed petals which, whether you like that trait or not or not, doesn’t matter much, since the flower is recurve enough to hide the tips so they don’t show anyway... ![]() | GAMELAN GAMELAN DOR 26" M ((sdlg x Godiva Jam) x sdlg) Are you ready for this? In the photo you can’t see the new form for daylilies very well, but it’s difficult to include all of the gee whizs of note here so I will enumerate. The very flat petals of this 6" flower stand well above the tightly recurved darker sepals. I have seen and even bloomed flowers with somewhat this form, but never were they this big, this extreme or regularly bring a smile at it and a whispered, Good job.”even though by now I know what to expect. The colors are most admirable consisting of light orange gold petal edges blending to a rose and then a lavender mid rib. The sepals are a solid dark splendid orangish kind of rose. The eyezone is red and the throat is a bit gold and then green. I need to stop now or no one is going to believe me...Tetraploid SOLD OUT |
![]() | TRICK PONY SEV 24" EM (sdlg x In the Navy) At 3 3/4", the colors in this distinctive pony make it a standout. Composed of a cream background lightly brushed with rose lavender and bolstered by darker veining that tend to form vees or double yews even, at the petal edges. The photo shows an outer cream edge, but that effect is a sometime thing. have spoken to the little dear about that. Folks like to know what they can count on. However, the thing that matters quite a bit more is the fact that the eye is the color you see and carries over to its kids frequently, along with producing good, interesting and unique colors and combinations. Now, that makes for very satisfactory mornings in the sdlg patch...Diploid SOLD OUT |
![]() | PICKWICKIAN DOR 22" M (sdlg x sdlg) Particularly full, round, well formed and with a modestly toothy yellow edge, the flowers have a second edge of maroon on lavender-pink 3 3/4" blooms. This dandy small fry has a watermark eyezone. The demarcation edge of the eye is of matching maroon. Inside this edge, the chartreuse in the throat blends into the lighter watermark making a particularly nice interesting color punctuated with black anthers. It is a bit difficult but worthwhile parent as well as a garden charmer...Tetraploid $100.00 |
![]() | MACOMBO MACOMBO SEV 30" M ((Gretchen Glime x sdlg) x sdlg)) Bred in an effort to introduce veining in a wider range of colors than now exist, I used, among other crosses, the most sunfast dark red cultivar I know. The results were most rewarding, resulting in quite a rich nonfading purple with dark enough veins and edge to show on a purple background. On a 5 ½" flower, the 2 ½" petals are not particularly wide and are pointed. Anyone out there thinking spider tinkering? Even if not, with this dark color the petal form, along with its chartreuse throat, is an asset in helping it and its segments stand out in the garden rather than appearing as a blob with no particular, detail from any distance. With wavy ruffles included, this one was an easy choice in the seedling bed as one having that all illusive quality - character...Diploid $75.00 |
![]() | THROUGH THICK AND THIN SEV 28" EM (sdlg x sdlg) The color of this unusual form addition to a popular and rapidly growing category is a most genteel saturated mid-lavender with cream edges. Its eyezone blends to a much lighter tone of the 7 ½" flower and then into a very complimentary throat of yellow followed by bright green. The eyezone of the sepals comes out just about as far as that on the petals making a nice starshaped pattern. All segments curl back the same amount making an orderly and pleasing form unlike that other bunch of loose formed rowdies. Even if you don’t care for the thin ones, if you like pretty, you just might like this one...Tetraploid SOLD OUT |
![]() | SASSY HIGH JINKS DOR 16" MLa ((sdlg x All Day Reign x sdlg)) Claridges is a 5" parent of All Day Reign which is a 3 ½" parent of Lillipution which is 2 ½". This is fascinating, to me, because going from 5" to 2 ½" in three generations just doesn’t happen. I supposed this wee gem would have a tendency to get some bigger through the season, as it became more established, when I moved it or when I divided it. It didn’t. What’s more I have used it, with much success, in breeding miniatures. Amazing. It has very nice red dusting tending to get more dense toward the edges of the segments. The dark edge of the watermark is the same color. Adding to its potential is a first rate form, ruffles in keeping with its size and an enlivening spring green throat. All in all there isn’t much more one could ask of so small a tyke. If you do think you would like something else, where would you put it?... Diploid SOLD OUT |
