2006 INTRODUCTIONS

ARE TOO DEE TWO
EV re 24" ML  (sdlg x sdlg) I continue to persist with producing small flowers of all sorts and I would like to point out that all the best hybridizers or hybridizer pairs at least dabble in this activity, assuring themselves a spot on that August list.  I offer this 4" introduction as a case in point.  A lively rust orange whose midrib is very light almost pink merges with the rust orange which intensifies toward the edges of the segments making them look almost three dimensionally round. An almost watermark eye edged red blends into the yellow and then green throat which and augments the wire edges of the petals.  The form is excellent. The plants are strong,  dormant and rebloomers...Tetraploid $75.00

BALTHAZAR
As a wise man once said, "Balthazar!"  Dor  re 36" EM ((sdlg x Lava Light) x [(Benin Bronze x Inchon) x Winterberry Candy] x ((Gingerbread x sdlg)))  Dedicated to one of my favorite groups of daylily aficionados, this one's for that amiable lunatic fringe consisting of ‘brown' flower enthusiasts.  Here the base color of this 41/2" offering is cream gold overlaid with red and then a slight wash of wine.  Petal veining is red.  Their rich surface colors stop short of the edges leaving light gold edges unlike the sepals where the wine color intensifies toward their edges.  The good wine color of the eye continues half way around the petal edges.  Balthasar has proven to be a fine source of lavishly hued seedlings....Tetraploid $100.00

FOLLOWING MY MUSE Dor re 24" EM (sdlg x sdlg) Did I mention feminine? Indeed, I do those too. I divided this plant for introduction two years ago. Last spring was purely nasty. When it bloomed I did not recognize what I had in its spot. I had never seen the likes before. The flower was smaller than ever and intensely colored particularly the eye and edge which were, I kid you not, blue. Soon, it quit that foolishness and went back to 5 1/4" and its customary color, but the demonstration reassured me that the pale blue adorning the light pink actually was. The dominant color is cream with the overall flower rouged with an airy rose pink, more so toward the segment edges, effectively making pink and blue charmers...

CHICKABIDDY
Dor re 24" M ((sdlg x Dragons Eye) x sdlg) The name is a little joke for a little flower......very little flower....... very little joke, 2 5/8" in fact. That would be the flower. The sharply triangular eye and the edges of the petals are cherry red, brighter than the picture would have you believe. The two toned color of the segments is accurate even though not pronounced, just enough to set me off trying to boost the colors of the pink sepals and mid ribs and yellow petals. Its form is such that would make pink sepals worth the doing. I hope to keep the very green throat and the impeccable symmetry during this project...Diploid $40.00

INCREDIBLE HUNK

SEV 26" MLA (tet Bologongo sdlg x tet Bologongo) Exaggerated seersucker texture, 3 ½" wide petals on a 5 ½" wide flower with wide sepals and big loose lavish ruffles make a muscular looking hunk of a sight. Its partial recurve adds to the bulky appearance. All of the petals are the same width with an equal amount of ruffles and texturing even on the sepals. Layered rose and burnt orange (more orange than the picture). The morning green throat matures to a compatible yellow. I'm quite fond of elegant pretty feminine flowers, but a handsome rugged masculine specimen is a fine thing as well...Tetraploid $100

NOTIFY CURT
Sev 50" ML ((sdlg x Jim McKinney) x sdlg) x sdlg))) It appears the move is on for tall daylilies. What we have here is a tall daylily. To make things even better, it has been known to generate 36 buds per scape and still not fall over in a summer storm. I applaud such deportment. The flower is rose pink with a tad of orange and of lavender. A very large cream throat becomes yellow and then spring green farther down and sports a narrow matching yellow edge on its segments. Appropriately, the flowers are big at 6 1/4". Its kids are conspicuous all over my seedling beds, some tall, most not as tall. Tetraploid $100

MY FACE IS RED
Dor 28" M (Mindanao Deep x sdlg) Bugs? Bugs? Who has bugs? Are slugs bugs? We'll be having those interlopers for dinner. From the pod parent comes the clear dark rich color of these flawless 5" red flowers that have been generated on fine productive scapes and handsome, hardy plants. The petal edges are somewhat darker, and at times might even fabricate a few bubbles among its prodigious ruffles for the purpose of demonstrating that it can do that as well, when it feels like it. Its segments are wide particularly for a red. Effortlessly, it produces first rate progeny the likes of which are enough to make any hybridizer feel proud...

SOMETIMES I WONDER
Dor 26" ML (sdlg x sdlg) An eye catcher in the garden even at 3 3/4" and even if blooming just one bloom, it puts on a show. In clump strength it can even take attention away from those big chicken fat encumbered specimens. One hears comments about it from visitors such as, "I've seen ruffles enough, but just look at that tailored one!" The edges are fairly trim with round petals and pointed sepals. The contrast is very good. It might have more color than typical in the sepals, as in the picture, either as a first flower or in quite cool weather. However, normally they have very little color at all making a strong contrast. The near black petals are not purple. Rather, they are a rich dark red. Tetraploid $100
